Ellon annihilate league leaders
By Chris the cricketing Correspondent
On Saturday Ellon travelled to Kintore to play the league leaders who went into the game with an unbeaten record. Steve Reid, Iain Robertson, Ken Montgomery and Craig White all came into the team.
On winning the toss Scott Middleton decided to bowl, it was not until the 9th over that Ellon made the breakthrough when Steve Reid has Grayson caught at mid on by Steve Anderson.
Steve Anderson picked up the next wicket when he had Doug Anderson leg before making only 12 runs.
Summers and Stalker stayed together at the crease for 9 overs although not scoring many runs due to the tight bowling and fielding by Ellon. Jon Barrett was introduced and he had the frustrated Stalker caught by Kerry Williams at point.
Balsillie joined Summers but it was not long before he was heading back to the dressing room when Barrett baffled him with his spin and he was bowled.
Young Australian Adams joined Summers and the pair put together the last meaningful partnership of the Kintore innings. Steve Anderson ended the partnership when he had Summers caught by Scott ‘butter fingers’ Middleton.
Once Anderson had finished his very economical spell of 2 for 20 off 15 overs Steve Reid was brought back into the attack. His sheer pace was too much for the Kintore lower order. Parks caught Adams off Reid’s bowling then Petrie could only fend off a brute of a delivery from Reid and Robertson took an excellent catch when he ran in 20 yards and dived full length to dismiss the batsman. Walker only lasted 1 ball when he edged to Parks. Reid had picked up 3 wickets in 2 overs.
Barrett bowled Smith before Reid finished off the innings when he bowled Singer for 0.
The Kintore innings closed on 92.
Ellon’s new opening partnership of Steve Anderson and Andy Churchill knew the task in hand and went about it the right way. Punishing the bad ball and keeping the good one out was how they batted. Both batsmen used a full array of strokes to send the bowlers to all parts of the ground. With the score on 47 Churchill made the only midtake of the innings when he drove a full toss back at the bowler and was dismissed for 22.
This only seemed to act as a catalyst as Barrett joined Anderson and the pair finished the game in boundrys as Kintore rotated their bowlers to try and pick up an extra bowling point.
Anderson finished on 48 not out and Barrett finished on 22.
Ellon entertain St Ronalds on Saturday
knowing they cannot be complacent to beat a team that has very good individuals.
Scott Middleton will miss the match so Jon Barrett will captain the side.
