Ellon crushed by St Ronald
By Chris the crying Correspondent
Ellon took the field on Saturday minus several key players including Andy Churchill, Scott Middleton, Ross Wade, Frank Francis and Steve Reid. On losing the toss stand in captain Jon Barrett was asked to bat.
Due to a lack of numbers at the ground at the start time Barrett was forced into opening the batting himself with Charlie Reid.
Barrett was bowled by a real beauty by Dave Miller with only 4 on the scoreboard.
Steve Anderson who had just arrived pulled on the pads and replaced Barrett, he and Reid were playing sensibly before Reid had a slash at a wide delivery and was caught behind off the bowling of Scott White.
Ellon lost 3 wickets in quick succession with Chris Watson and Craig White also perishing from the bowling of White and Ellon were 23 for 4.
Andy Parks joined Anderson and the pair put together the only real partnership of the Ellon innings and both batsmen were going well until Anderson was stumped off the bowling of Mudie for a valuable 29.
Both Iain Robertson, Gordon McNeil and Ali Raja never added anything to the scoreboard either.
Parks was outsmarted by an Alec Keith slower ball to bring to the end a determined batting display for 23 runs.
Heydon Barrett and Steven Doak brought the Ellon innings to a close when Barrett was run out possibly due to a bad call by his partner(well that’s what he is saying anyway!).
After tea Ellon took the field knowing they had it all to do against a decent batting line up. Opening bowlers Jon Barrett and Steve Anderson bowled tightly but never took any wickets.
Change bowler Chris Watson took the wicket of Martin Murchie thanks to a catch by Charlie Reid at mid on to bring up the only success for Ellon.
Alec Keith (42no) and Kenny Reid saw St Ronald home with plenty of overs to spare.
A largly disappointing performance saw
Ellon lose vital ground at the top of the league table and this results
could put an end to all title aspirations. Hopefully a stronger team
will travel to Banchory on Saturday and entertain Cults in the SCU cup
on the Sunday in Ellon.
