Cults Crush Ellon
Ellon traveled to Cults on Saturday to play the league leaders. Skipper Scott Middleton won the toss and decided to bowl.
Opening bowlers Steve Anderson and Ross Wade had the tough job of removing the Cults batsmen. Anderson struck in the 5th over bowled Neil Gourlay with a ball that cut back in at him. Then Ellon got the prized wicket of Bryan Alexander when he offered Chris Watson a simple catch at Mid on.
Ellon were on top with the score on 29 for 2 but unfortunately vital chances were missed and catches were dropped resulting in Ev Lee and Graeme Gillanders managing to take the Cults total to 90 for 3. Gillanders was eventually bowled by Anderson. Paul Upjohn was next in but he did not last too long when he had a reckless swipe at a Barrett delivery and was bowled.
With the score on 107 for 4 Sanexa joined Lee and the pair put together a 108 run partnership before Sanexa was caught behind by off the bowling of Scott Middleton. The Cults innings closed on 217 for 5 from 46 overs.
Ellon’s reply got off to a terrible start with Anderson, Barrett, Watson and White all back to the pavilion with only 23 on the board.
Charlie Reid joined Andy Churchill and the pair went about rebuilding the Ellon innings. The pair put on 43 with Churchill scoring the majority of the runs before he was caught off the bowling of Gourlay for 54.
Scott Middleton came to the crease and he was is belligerent mood hitting all bowlers out of the ground. He hit Neil Gourlay out of the attack then his next victim was Hamish MacDougal when he hit him over the pavilion. Unfortunately when Middleton was looking to bring up his 1st 50 of the season he became the victim of a suicidal run out.
Cults also picked up 2 cheap wickets in the shape of Kenny Hutcheson and Tyson Dunz before Charlie Reid was caught sleeping and he was run out as well.
Ross Wade and Lawrence Meikle almost managed to salvage a draw for Ellon with Wade hitting a couple of boundary’s on the way to a fine 16 not out. Unfortunately Meikle was caught in the gully with only 4 overs remaining.
A succession of missed chances resulted
in Ellon chasing a total possibly 50 runs more than it should have been.
Hopefully Ellon’s fielding ability will be back with them when they host
Kintore next Saturday at Gordon Park.
